Cinema Club
Revelations on the Screen
Cinema Club meets once a month, $35 per meeting.
Seeing is a creative process. Great performers lift up a veil of emotions for us to reveal the mysterious depths from which they rise. To receive what they show us, we need to sharpen our perceptions and sensitivity.
Seeing a work of art is a two-way communication between the actor and the audience. It’s a path for actors, artists, and anybody to keep developing creative sensibilities. It’s a process of learning to perceive the internal world that reveals step-by-step, the smaller and smaller miniscule details through the life on screen.
Once a month, this club meets to watch and analyze performances and scenes from great films. We look at several scenes from each film and break them down, seeing exactly how the master actors construct their performances and how the work of the actor is a component of the total film composition. Each moment analyzed is related to the through line of the actors’ creative process in capturing the character and reflecting the essence of the film.
The films we explore are from both previous eras and the contemporary one to observe the evolution of acting techniques and their connection to time and culture. Yet, also see how essential elements of acting techniques have persisted through time. All of the scenes are from masterful films that challenge perception, thinking, and give us new eyes to see with.
The meetings are led by Polina Klimovitskaya, a master teacher who developed Kinetic Mind technique, and who has taught in major schools in the United States and Europe and worked as an actress and director for many decades.
It is a collaborative process and active discussion led by Polina. Everyone, regardless of background, is welcome to participate – open to everyone interested: actors, filmmakers, directors, cinema lovers, and anyone curious.
